Greece hosts commemorations for Patriarch Bartholomew and Arkadi Monastery
Commemorative events are being held in Greece to mark significant religious and historical milestones. In Imbros, the Holy Metropolis of Imbros and Tenedos and the Athonite Home of Thessaloniki organized celebrations to honor the 35th anniversary of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew’s patriarchy and his 65 years of priestly ministry. During the event, the Patriarch spoke of his emotional connection to Mount Athos and his historical ties to the region.
In Crete, the Arkadi Monastery will host a presentation of Ivan Aivazovsky’s iconic painting, ‘The Explosion of the Arkadi Monastery’. The exhibition is part of the commemorations for the 160th anniversary of the Arkadian sacrifice. The painting, created in 1867, depicts the historic events of the Cretan Revolution. The work is being lent from the National Gallery of Greece for a three-month exhibition at the site that inspired the masterpiece.
