Greece implements digital checks for vehicle technical inspections

Greek authorities are implementing new electronic cross-checks to identify vehicles that have not undergone mandatory technical inspections (KTEO). This digital system utilizes data from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to automatically detect expired inspection certificates.

The system monitors the expiration dates of technical inspection reports. For vehicles with previous results of ‘Successful’ or ‘Minor Deficiencies,’ a violation is recorded if the inspection is overdue by more than a seven-day grace period. Vehicles previously flagged with ‘Serious Deficiencies’ are subject to different re-inspection timelines, while those with ‘Dangerous Deficiencies’ are prohibited from circulating until repairs are verified.

These automated checks allow for the imposition of fines, which can reach up to 400 euros, without the need for a physical roadside stop. This initiative follows similar digital enforcement measures previously used to track uninsured vehicles and unpaid circulation taxes.
