Greece implements electronic checks for overdue vehicle inspections

Greece is launching a new round of mass electronic cross-checks targeting vehicle owners who fail to complete mandatory technical inspections (KTEO) on time. This initiative follows previous digital oversight measures that targeted uninsured vehicles and unpaid circulation fees, which resulted in approximately 300,000 fine notifications since the beginning of the year.

The automated system will compare digital vehicle data, specifically the Technical Inspection Certificate and the scheduled date for the next inspection, against the current date. The system will recognize valid certificates issued both within Greece and those recognized from abroad.

A violation is officially recorded if more than seven days have passed since the deadline for the next required inspection. Owners found in violation of these requirements face fines of up to 400 euros.
