Greece implements incentives to reverse skilled labor migration
Greece is implementing strategic measures to reverse the ‘brain drain’ that saw over half a million citizens move abroad since 2010, primarily to Germany. Following an economic recovery and a decrease in unemployment, the country is seeing a shift in migration patterns. In 2024, for the first time, the number of Greeks settling in Germany was lower than the number of Greeks leaving the country.
To attract highly skilled professionals in fields such as medicine, IT, and cybersecurity, the Greek government is offering significant incentives. These include a 50% reduction in income tax for seven years and streamlined processes for the recognition of foreign diplomas. The government is also actively recruiting at international career fairs, including upcoming events in Munich, where a large Greek community resides.
