Thessaloniki Flyover project reaches 60% completion

The Thessaloniki Flyover project has surpassed 60% completion, with Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Nikos Tachiaos setting May 2027 as the final delivery date. Tachiaos noted that while efforts were made to finish earlier, the May 2027 deadline remains the original and most realistic target for a fully functional and safe road system designed to alleviate city congestion.

The complex infrastructure project includes a 7.6 km elevated highway, nine interchanges, and three new tunnels. Construction has faced technical challenges, such as ground subsidence in certain areas, which impacted costs. The project is being implemented through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) by the ABAX-Mytilineos consortium under a 30-year contract for construction, operation, and maintenance.

Due to ongoing works, significant traffic adjustments are in effect. On the E65 motorway and the Thessaloniki Ring Road, lane closures and diversions are being implemented to facilitate safety works. Specifically, nighttime closures on the Eastern Inner Ring Road have been scheduled to allow for construction progress.
