Greece imposes stricter safety fines for tourists and drivers

Greek authorities require that cars travelling to Greece carry a certified powder ABC fire extinguisher. The extinguisher must be valid, classified with a capacity of at least 8A 34B C, and is commonly recommended at 2 kg, though size alone does not determine suitability. Failure to present a proper extinguisher can result in a fine of about €80.

During the peak tourist season, Greece also warned that violations of beach safety and environmental rules will attract high penalties. Using a stand‑up paddleboard without a life jacket can be fined €250, while operating outside designated zones may incur €50‑200. Nighttime paddleboarding is prohibited. Beach tennis is allowed only in marked areas, with fines ranging from €100 to €1,000 for disturbances. Noise from loudspeakers can attract €200‑500 fines, and infractions involving vessels may reach €2,000. Pollution of the sea carries fines that can climb to €58,000, and illegal wild‑camping is penalised at €300 per person, with possible court action for serious breaches.
