Greece introduces digital monitoring for farmers and fishers

The Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food is introducing a new multi-law bill aimed at digitizing and tightening controls across the agricultural, fishing, livestock, and honey production sectors.

A central component of the reform is the creation of a digital profile for every registered farmer. This digital card will consolidate all alphanumeric and geospatial data regarding their activities and holdings, providing a unified view of their operations. Registration in the Registry of Farmers and Agricultural Holdings (MAAE) will now be directly linked to the Single Application for Support (myagro/OSDE), requiring annual electronic registration via Taxisnet credentials.

The new framework also establishes a National Fisheries Control System, implements digital monitoring for honey production and movement, and introduces stricter penalties for violations of zoonosis control measures. Additionally, the reform includes interventions in aquaculture and the transfer of information infrastructure from OPEKEPE to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) to enhance oversight from production to trade.
