Greece investigates double homicide in Aigio and teen killing in Crete

In the town of Aigio, authorities are examining the June 9 deaths of a 54‑year‑old woman and her 26‑year‑old son. Investigators are considering a scenario in which the mother may have fatally wounded her son before taking her own life. A 65‑year‑old Italian man who was previously linked to the case denies any involvement. The woman had undergone a psychiatric assessment shortly before the incident, which noted depressive symptoms, alcohol dependence and a recommendation for treatment that she declined.

On the island of Crete, 21‑year‑old Nikitas Gemistou was murdered by the 54‑year‑old father of his friend, who had earlier died in a traffic accident. Gemistou’s family filed a formal complaint with the Hellenic Police, alleging police negligence and stating that they repeatedly sought help before the killing occurred. The complaint seeks an investigation into police responsibilities surrounding the incident.
