Greece investigates medical tax evasion and police bribery

Authorities in Greece are conducting separate investigations into financial misconduct and corruption.

In one case, investigators are scrutinizing the tax records of doctors at a clinic in Kolonaki following the death of Giorgos Mazonakis. Authorities are looking for millions of euros in undeclared income. While services such as liposuction were reportedly priced at 6,000 euros, investigators claim the doctors' declared income only reflects tens of thousands of euros. The primary theory being examined is that large sums of cash were transferred abroad through the doctors' companies.

In a separate incident in Volos, a police officer has been accused of bribery and abuse of power. The officer allegedly accepted between 250 and 700 euros from drivers to suppress traffic violations and return confiscated licenses or plates. The defendant's lawyer stated that the officer acted under intense stress and health issues, noting that he has admitted to the actions and intends to return the funds to the state.
