Greece issues over 2,370 helmet fines in one week of enforcement
During the 50th week of the "Zero tolerance for helmet non‑use" campaign, Greek police recorded more than 2,370 fines. From 8‑14 June, 19,171 checks were carried out, confirming 1,501 driver violations, 680 electric‑bike rider violations and 16 ATV driver violations.
Regional totals included 762 cases in Attica, 428 in the South Aegean, 208 in Crete, 176 in Thessaloniki, 165 in Western Greece, 159 in the Ionian Islands, 103 in the Peloponnese, 102 in Thessalia and smaller numbers elsewhere.
The new Road Traffic Code increases penalties: a €350 fine and a 30‑day licence suspension for motorcyclists (and the same for riders who endanger passengers), €350 for passenger riders and €30 for electric‑bike riders. Repeat offences attract even harsher sanctions.
