Greece issues over 5,000 permits for flood‑damaged building repairs

By 14 July 2026 the Greek General Secretariat for Natural Disaster Impact Restoration reported that more than 5,000 repair permits had been issued for buildings damaged by the “Daniel” floods, representing roughly €36.5 billion in free state aid.

The permitting process began in August 2024 after six‑month inspections of about 30,000 structures. A single‑price‑per‑square‑metre method was introduced in September 2024 and expanded in March 2025 to additional regional offices, accelerating issuance. The Karditsa region received the most permits—2,048 worth over €16 billion—followed by Palamas (1,400 permits, €12.1 billion) and Farkadona in Trikala (557 permits, €5.1 billion). The restoration effort continues at a steady pace across the affected areas.
