Greece joins IMF's SEETAC as founding partner, praised for economic leadership

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva met with Greek Finance Minister Kyriacos Pierarakis in Brussels to mark Greece’s participation as a founding partner of the Southeast Europe Regional Technical Assistance Centre (SEETAC). Georgieva congratulated Greece, saying it is now “among the top economies of Europe” and highlighted its fiscal surplus, which enables the country to share expertise with other aspiring EU members.

Greece will contribute €1 million annually to SEETAC for a five‑year period, shifting from a former aid‑receiving role to a provider of reforms knowledge for Balkan states and Moldova. Pierarakis stressed that the partnership signals Greece’s “lead‑ership in the wider region” and its commitment to support economic convergence and resilience across Southeast Europe.
