Greece lauded by IMF as top Eurozone economy, joins SEETAC aid hub
International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva praised Greece’s economic turnaround, saying the country “now counts among the top economies of Europe” and is a model of fiscal reform. She highlighted Greece’s shift from a bailout recipient to a provider of expertise and stability in the region.
In Brussels, Greek Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis announced Greece’s role as a founding partner of the IMF’s Southeast Europe Regional Technical Assistance Centre (SEETAC). Greece will contribute €1 million per year for five years, supporting technical assistance for the Western Balkans and Moldova, and will sit on the centre’s steering committee. Pierrakakis added that Greece “confirms its leading role in Southeast Europe.”
