Greece launches 2026 home renovation subsidy program
The Greek government has activated an online platform for the new "Renovation of Housing" (Ανακαίνιση Κατοικίας) scheme. Applications for eligibility opened on 15 June and run until the end of August, allowing owners to verify whether their property meets the basic criteria. A second phase will begin in early September when applicants will be admitted to the program and the size of the grant – ranging from €12,000 to €36,000 per dwelling – will be determined.
The programme is funded with €500 million and aims to support roughly 20,000 homes built on or before 31 December 1990. Eligible properties must be either closed‑to‑public or owner‑occupied, not exceed 120 m² (150 m² for large families), have an energy class of C or lower, and must not have participated in a similar scheme since 1 January 2020 nor be listed in the short‑term rental registry.
Grants can cover up to 80% of renovation costs and 70% of energy‑saving upgrades, with additional 5% boosts for families with three or more children, households with a disabled member, or properties in islands or mountainous areas. Subsidies may reach €300 per square metre, with an extra €2,500 available for related administrative expenses. Income thresholds differ for closed versus owner‑occupied homes, ranging from €18,000/€25,000 for single applicants up to €45,000 for couples, plus €5,000 per child.
