Greece launches 500 million euro home renovation program
The Greek government has released the implementation guide for the ‘Home Renovation’ program, a co-funded initiative under the 2021-2027 NSRF (ESPA) totaling 500 million euros. The program aims to improve energy efficiency in older buildings, reduce household energy costs, and return unused properties to the market.
Subsidies range from 70% to 95%, with a maximum coverage of 36,000 euros for technical renovation and energy improvement works. Additionally, up to 2,500 euros is available for advisory and support services. The program prioritizes vacant properties, which are allocated 200 million euros of the total fund. Following vacant homes, priority is given to low-income households based on specific income thresholds.
While approximately 94,000 eligibility certificates have already been issued, there is significant competition for funds. Currently, only about 15% of these certificates (14,000) pertain to vacant homes, while 80,000 relate to currently occupied residences. Technical issues, including data mismatching between the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) and the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE), have reportedly caused some applicants to be excluded due to incorrect data mapping.
