Greece launches €70 smartphone voucher for citizens with severe disabilities

The Greek government is preparing a subsidy programme that will grant a €70 discount on each new smartphone purchased by eligible citizens. The voucher will be applied directly at the point of sale, eliminating the need for later reimbursement. Eligibility is limited to individuals whose disability rating exceeds 67 %. The scheme is intended to narrow the digital divide by giving this group access to modern phones equipped with accessibility tools and to public e‑services. Applications will be processed automatically through existing public registries, and the devices will be sold only through authorised mobile operators and partner retailers.

The initiative reflects a broader effort to promote digital inclusion for people with disabilities and to streamline the benefit distribution via digital verification, reducing queues and paperwork.
