Greece launches ChildSay program to improve child custody judicial processes

Greece has launched the ChildSay program, an EU-co-funded initiative designed to integrate the voices of children into judicial decisions regarding custody and parental care. The program aims to create a more child-friendly justice system by focusing on children aged 6 to 10.

Minister of Justice Giorgos Floridis stated that the initiative involves research, professional training, and a national action plan. It targets a wide range of stakeholders, including judges, prosecutors, lawyers, social workers, psychologists, and police officers. The goal is to align Greek judicial practices with international standards for child-friendly justice.

Floridis noted that while Greek legislation already contains provisions for hearing children, the program seeks to provide substantive implementation. Additionally, a committee will be established to evaluate changes made to Family Law over the last five years to inform future legislative improvements.
