Child welfare and judicial protection initiatives in Greece

Overview

Greece has initiated several programs aimed at improving child welfare and judicial protections. In September 2026, the government launched the ChildSay program, an EU-co-funded initiative intended to integrate the voices of children aged 6 to 10 into judicial decisions regarding custody and parental care. Minister of Justice Giorgos Floridis noted the program focuses on research, professional training, and aligning Greek practices with international standards for child-friendly justice.

Following this, a three-year international partnership was established to prevent and address child sexual abuse. This collaboration involves Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, Eastern Mediterranean University (ELMEPA), the John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York, and the non-profit ‘To Tharos’. The partnership seeks to connect Greek academic research with international expertise to develop practical actions for child protection and support.
