Greece inaugurates Dedalus supercomputer to boost AI

Greece has launched Dedalus, its most powerful national supercomputer, located at the Lavrio Technological Cultural Park. Representing an investment of 58.9 million euros, the system delivers a performance of 85.69 PetaFlops, ranking it 31st globally on the Top500 list and 23rd on the Green500 list for energy efficiency.

The supercomputer is designed to support businesses, universities, and research centers by providing the computational power necessary to develop new products, accelerate scientific research, and train advanced artificial intelligence models. It will serve as the computational core of the PHAROS AI Factory, which combines high-performance computing with specialized tools and data to support AI application development.

By hosting these resources domestically, Greece aims to reduce its dependence on foreign computing infrastructure and provide a secure environment for processing sensitive data in sectors such as medical research, public administration, and climate simulation. Access for the scientific and business communities is expected to begin following final testing and adjustments.
