Greece launches emergency child allowance payments
The Greek government has activated an emergency one‑off child allowance of €150 per dependent child. The payment scheme, defined in a recently published joint ministerial decision in the Government Gazette, will begin within 48 hours and be credited automatically to the bank accounts (IBAN) registered with the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE). Eligibility is limited to tax‑resident parents whose annual family income does not exceed €40,000 for married couples or cohabiting partners (raised by €5,000 for each additional child) and €39,000 for single‑parent families (also increased by €5,000 per extra child). The aid is tax‑free, cannot be seized, and will not be offset against any public debts. A special provision covers children born between 1 January 2025 and 31 July 2026, allowing the allowance or an additional amount to be paid by 31 August 2026 provided the income criteria are met. In cases of joint tax returns, the full amount is paid to the spouse or partner listed as liable; for separate returns, the sum for shared children is split equally. Recipients are advised to verify the correctness of their registered bank details to avoid delays.
