Greece launches new olive fruit fly control measures in Achaia and Crete

Agricultural authorities in Greece have initiated new phases of the 2026 collective olive fruit fly control program to protect olive production and oil quality.

In Achaia, the second general bait spraying phase began on August 31, covering various communities within the municipalities of Patras and Aigialeia, including areas such as Argyra, Rio, and Aigio. However, some regions in Achaia, including parts of West Achaia and Aigialeia, lack designated contractors due to legal appeals in the bidding process. Farmers in these specific areas are advised to manage pest control using their own resources.

In Crete, the second general bait spraying is nearing completion across most of the region. The third general spraying phase has already commenced in parts of northern Heraklion, with further applications expected in other areas depending on weather conditions and pest collection levels. A repeat tender is currently underway to select contractors for sections where previous bids were rejected or left vacant.
