Greece opens applications for Personal Assistant program for people with disabilities

Greece has launched the electronic platform for new applications to the ‘Personal Assistant for People with Disabilities’ program, transitioning it from a pilot phase to a permanent national service. Managed by OPΕΚΑ, the program aims to enhance the autonomy and independence of individuals with physical, mental, developmental, sensory, or psychological disabilities.

Beneficiaries can receive monthly support of up to 1,939 euros, depending on their assessed level of need. The assistance covers various aspects of daily life, including personal care, mobility, work, studies, and social participation. Applicants must be between 16 and 67 years old (with exceptions up to 75), have a disability rate of at least 67%, and meet specific income criteria.

The application window is open from August 26 until November 27, 2026. Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michailidou, stated that the program allows individuals to organize their lives according to their own choices. The program is funded by both national and European resources, with an annual budget of approximately 53 million euros.
