Greek disability and housing reforms advance

Overview

In early July, Minister Domna Michailidou unveiled a social‑support package that refunds two months’ rent for public servants away from home, expands renovation grants to cover up to 95 % of costs, creates social‑rented homes on public land and offers a €10,000 relocation subsidy for families moving permanently to Florina and Kastoria. Administration rests with OPEKA, new entrants will be selected via a points‑based system, and beneficiaries who used the service for at least 60 days during the pilot will retain support without a new application. On 2 August Minister Akis Skertso announced the immediate construction or renovation of 19,750 affordable housing units under the “Agenda 2030” plan, expected to benefit nearly 60,000 people and provide more than 8,500 student‑dormitory places.
