Greece launches PosoKanei price‑comparison platform, 175,000 users in first weeks

The Greek Ministry of Development has released a free digital tool, PosoKanei, that aggregates price information from ten major supermarket chains (including AB Vasilopoulos, My Market, Lidl and others). The platform, accessible via the posokanei.gov.gr website and Android/iOS apps, holds around 10,000 product codes in six categories – food, drinks, personal care, cleaning, baby goods and pet supplies – and updates prices daily through data supplied by the retailers or automated web‑scraping.

Within the first weeks of operation more than 175,000 citizens have visited or used the service, seeking to compare individual items and calculate the total cost of a shopping basket before heading to a store. Officials say the tool aims to increase market transparency and help households mitigate the impact of rising grocery prices, though they stress it does not itself lower prices. Digital‑governance minister Dimitris Papastergiou described PosoKanei as “a concrete example of technology delivering real solutions to everyday problems.”
