Greece unveils PosoKanei platform to compare supermarket prices
The Greek government has launched the digital platform PosoKanei, allowing consumers to compare real‑time prices of roughly 8,000‑10,000 products across ten major supermarket chains. The service is available via the website posokanei.gov.gr and mobile apps for Android and iOS, and uses cloud infrastructure from Google and Microsoft.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis presented the platform, stating that it “adds another essential step in the fight against the cost of living” and that “the market is pressured to become more competitive.” Ministers of Digital Governance and Development highlighted its role in increasing market transparency and helping citizens spot misleading offers.
Critics note that while the tool improves information, it does not itself lower prices or curb inflation. The platform also lets users compare Greek prices with average prices in other EU countries and plans future extensions to fuel pricing, ready‑meal categories, and additional European markets.
