Greece leaves EU macroeconomic surveillance, ending excess‑deficit monitoring

The European Commission announced that Greece is no longer listed among the EU states with macro‑economic imbalances, officially ending the excess‑deficit surveillance that had been in place for 16 years. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said the decision closes a negative chapter, restores full economic normality and reflects the hard work of citizens and the state. He noted that the removal will help improve wages and pensions, reduce public debt and create new jobs, marking a step toward greater prosperity for the country.
