Greek Ministry of National Defence receives €117M in donations
The Greek Ministry of National Defence has reported receiving approximately €116.8 million in donations from July 2023 to August 21, 2026. These contributions, provided by 138 donors in the current year alone, are intended to support the reform of the Greek Armed Forces and the improvement of military infrastructure. Annual donation figures rose from roughly €298,000 in mid-2023 to over €55.2 million in the period leading up to August 2026.
Separately, the Ministry has announced a €63.5 million program focused on the energy upgrade and modernization of military factories. This initiative includes six major projects aimed at enhancing production capabilities and reducing energy requirements. Key investments include €20 million for the Branch Military Factory in Attica, €20.5 million for the Advanced Base Factory (304 PEB) in Volos, and €7 million for the Advanced Base Factory (308 PEB) in Thessaloniki. Other funds are allocated to the Interbranch Chemical Laboratory, naval maintenance facilities in Salamis, and the State Aircraft Factory in Attica. These upgrades are designed to strengthen the domestic defense production base and reduce reliance on external providers for critical maintenance and support.
