Greece: Missing German tourist found and Polish group rescued
Two separate rescue operations involving foreign tourists have concluded successfully in Greece.
In Crete, 65-year-old German tourist Thomas Bechert was located after being missing for several days. His family in Germany had grown concerned due to a lack of communication since September 27, especially given his health requirements for medication. It was determined that a mobile phone malfunction prevented him from contacting his relatives. He is confirmed to be safe on the island.
In the Gorgopotamos gorge, emergency services successfully rescued six Polish tourists—four men and two women—who became trapped during a canyoning excursion. The operation was complicated by a member of the group sustaining an injury and the difficult terrain, which included steep cliffs and waterfalls. Rescuers from EMAK utilized drones to coordinate the effort. The injured individual was transported to Lamia Hospital for medical attention.
