Greece moves ahead with Skaramagas road upgrade to cut congestion

The Greek government approved a €40.8 million project to build three grade‑separated interchanges in the Skaramagas area of western Attica. The work includes completing the Western Regional Avenue Ikaio, upgrading connections to the Athens‑Corinth Highway and the Schisto Avenue, and installing rain‑water collection infrastructure.

Daily traffic in the corridor reaches about 100,000 vehicles, including 20,000 heavy trucks. Officials expect the average speed to rise from 28 km/h to 47 km/h, reducing travel time and delivering an estimated €10 million in annual user savings. The 36‑month construction phase will begin after contract signing, with no tolls applied to the new facilities.
