The National Transparency Authority (EAD) has uncovered significant violations within 287 private health units in Greece. These findings, which include private clinics, diagnostic laboratories, and aesthetic centers, follow public scrutiny regarding healthcare oversight after the sudden death of Giorgos Mazonakis.

Inspections revealed a range of serious issues, including medical procedures performed by unqualified individuals—such as hair transplants and acupuncture—units operating without scientific supervisors, and the use of expired vaccines. The EAD has issued over 2,500 results from special inspections for public health protection since its establishment in 2019.

In response, the Greek Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Panhellenic Medical Association and the Medical Association of Athens, has introduced a new digital oversight strategy. This includes the 'Medwatch' platform, which utilizes Artificial Intelligence to scan social media and the internet for misleading medical advertisements. Additionally, a new digital tool will allow citizens to verify the operating licenses of private practices and approved medical procedures via their mobile phones.
