Greek private healthcare digital oversight

Overview

Following investigations by the National Transparency Authority (EAD) into 287 private health units, Greece has introduced new digital oversight measures for the healthcare sector. The EAD uncovered significant violations, including medical procedures performed by unqualified individuals, units operating without scientific supervisors, and the use of expired vaccines.

In response, the Greek Ministry of Health, the Panhellenic Medical Association, and the Medical Association of Athens have launched a digital strategy. This includes the ‘Medwatch’ platform, which uses Artificial Intelligence to monitor social media and the internet for misleading medical advertisements. Furthermore, a new digital tool has been implemented to allow citizens to verify operating licenses and approved medical procedures via mobile phones.
