Greece Home Renovation Program deadline set for August 31

The Greek government’s ‘Home Renovation’ program, backed by a 500 million euro ESPA budget, is approaching a critical deadline. Owners of closed properties must issue an eligibility certificate by August 31 to qualify for subsidies of up to 36,000 euros per residence.

The program aims to increase the availability of suitable housing for primary residence or long-term rental by funding renovations and mild energy upgrades. Eligibility is restricted to natural persons meeting specific income and ownership criteria. For closed properties, the deadline for eligibility certificates is August 31, whereas the deadline for occupied properties has already passed.

Subsidies cover 60%-80% of renovation costs and 20%-40% of energy upgrades. Additional coverage of up to 2,500 euros is available for studies, permits, and inspections. Recent expansions to the criteria include lowering the minimum ownership requirement from 50% to 20% for closed properties and adjusting energy consumption limits.
