Greece opens university student transfer applications for 2026

The Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports has opened the electronic platform for student transfers and relocations within Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Ecclesiastical Academies for the 2026-2027 academic year. The application window is open from Thursday, September 24, until Friday, October 2, 2026, at 14:00.

Eligible categories include students applying for social or economic reasons, siblings of undergraduate students, and specific groups such as the Muslim minority of Thrace, children of terrorism victims, and children of security forces personnel who died in service. Students must use credentials provided by their institution's secretariat to access the portal at transfer.it.minedu.gov.gr. A Tax Identification Number (AFM) is required for those needing family status certificates.

In separate social welfare news, OPEKA has announced an electronic platform for low-income families in mountainous and disadvantaged regions to apply for annual income support of 300 or 600 euros. The deadline for these applications is October 30, 2026. Additionally, seasonal subsidies for construction workers and forest workers in Chania are currently being processed, with applications due by November 30, 2026.

Regarding legal matters, the POMIDA organization is proposing a mechanism to allow the revocation of inheritance renouncements made since 2010 to address issues related to inherited debts.
