Greece orders evacuations as forest fires spread, multiple blazes also flare in Germany

A major forest fire erupted near Pevkali in the Corinth region of Greece around 13:00 local time. Greek authorities mobilised 62 firefighters, three foot crews, 18 fire engines, seven aerial firefighting planes and two helicopters, and activated the 112 emergency alert system, urging residents to evacuate via the Corinth‑Epidavros road toward Sofiko.

At the same time, several wildfires burned across Germany. The most severe was in the Bad Kreuznach district of Rhineland‑Palatinate, an area contaminated with unexploded ordnance, forcing people within a one‑kilometre radius to leave their homes and prompting the opening of a temporary shelter.

Additional Greek fires were reported in the Beotia area, near the villages of Petra and Agios Vasilios. Authorities ordered the immediate evacuation of residents near Petra and imposed a curfew on pedestrian and vehicle movement in parts of Halkidiki from 08:00 to 20:00 to prevent further spread.
