Greece plans widespread power outages on July 14‑15 for network upgrades

The Greek power grid operator DEHDE announced scheduled electricity interruptions on July 14 and July 15, 2026. On July 14, cuts will affect numerous neighborhoods in the Attica region, including parts of Athens, Kifissia, and surrounding suburbs, with outage windows ranging from early morning to mid‑afternoon. On July 15, the outages extend to the islands of Crete and surrounding municipalities such as Maléviží, Chania, and Rethymno, as well as areas in the regional units of Heraklion, Chios and others, lasting between two and six hours depending on the locality.

These interruptions are intended to support maintenance, reinforcement and upgrading work on the electrical distribution network. DEHDE advises residents to exercise caution, avoid using elevators, and disconnect appliances during the outage periods. The operator notes that the work may be completed earlier than planned if conditions allow.
