Greece: Police arrest suspects in separate theft and assault cases

Police in Greece have conducted two separate operations resulting in the arrest of suspects involved in theft and violence against officers.

In Ptolemaida, a 53-year-old foreign national with an outstanding prison sentence for thefts committed in 2013 was apprehended. During the arrest attempt in a rural area, the suspect resisted and attacked officers with punches and kicks, causing minor injuries to two policemen. The individual was also identified in connection with several attempted thefts from an elderly resident between late 2025 and 2026 and was found to be in the country illegally.

In the Ilia region, specifically within the Andravida-Kyllini municipality, authorities arrested a man linked to a criminal organization active since at least August 2026. The group is accused of carrying out eight residential burglaries, a car theft, and the theft of state license plates, resulting in losses of approximately 21,850 euros in cash and 28,000 euros in jewelry and tools. The suspect was intercepted while attempting to retrieve a stolen vehicle that had been hidden in a forested area.
