Greece prepares for October 28th school celebrations

Greek schools are preparing for the upcoming October 28th national anniversary celebrations. Because the holiday falls on a Wednesday this year, commemorative school events are scheduled for Tuesday, October 27th.

Attendance at these celebrations is mandatory for students across all educational levels, including kindergartens, primary, and secondary schools. Absences during the scheduled ceremonies will be marked as unjustified. Following the conclusion of the events, students will be dismissed according to schedules provided by their respective school units. In primary schools, all-day programs will not operate after the festivities.

The celebrations aim to honor the historical events of 1940 and the Greek refusal of the Italian ultimatum. Programs will include flag ceremonies, historical speeches, and traditional songs to maintain collective memory regarding the struggle for freedom and resistance against authoritarianism.
