Greece implements new multiple textbook program for schools

Greece is implementing a major educational reform through a "multiple textbook" program, transitioning from a single mandatory manual to a system where educators can select from approved teaching packages. Following a selection process completed this past June, 230 approved teaching packages—totaling 440 books—are moving toward production.

Students from the first grade of primary school through the first grade of high school are expected to receive these new materials by September 2027. For older students in the second and third grades of high school, new materials are anticipated in 2028 and 2029, respectively.

The new system provides both printed books and digital versions via the "Melispi" Digital Library. Digital resources include simulations, interactive exercises, educational games, videos, and maps. According to Panagiotis Piliouras of the Institute of Educational Policy, the goal is to provide modern materials that allow teachers to create "personalized learning paths" and grant them greater professional autonomy.
