Greece: Quiet streets in Glyfada and sewage leaks in Chania
In Glyfada, the streets have become largely deserted during the August 15 holiday period as many residents have moved to the islands and provinces. While main coastal avenues show minimal traffic, local supermarkets have experienced significant congestion and long queues at checkout counters as people rush to purchase supplies for the holiday.
In Chania, a major sewage leak has caused significant disruption in the Nea Chora district. A rupture in the central sewage pipe on Mitropoli Kyrillou Street led to a road collapse and flooding of basements in nearby homes and businesses. DEYAX technical services reported that the damage was unpredictable. Authorities have advised against swimming in the nearby Kladisou area while repair crews work to resolve the issue, which has halted vehicle traffic in the affected zone.
