Greece infrastructure and transport updates
Greece is seeing significant developments in transport and infrastructure. A study by the University of Thessaly highlights the E65 Motorway as a vital link for regional development, connecting central Greece to Western Macedonia and Epirus, while boosting tourism and trade for cities like Trikala and Ioannina.
In the aviation sector, Greek airports recorded nearly 47 million passengers in the first seven months of 2026, a 4.9% increase from 2025. Regional airports like Kastoria and Ioannina saw notable growth. However, Eurocontrol reports indicate that Greece ranked third in Europe for flight delays during the third week of August 2026, despite an overall increase in European air traffic.
Road maintenance and traffic adjustments are also underway. The E65 motorway will undergo lane closures for safety works between August 24 and September 11, 2026. Additionally, traffic restrictions are planned for the Thessaloniki Inner Ring Road on August 24, and various points in the Evros region due to electrical equipment maintenance.
