Greece readies June farmer subsidy payments under new CAP framework

Agriculture Minister Margaritis Schoinas announced that the Independent Authority for Public Revenue will complete the June disbursement of farmer subsidies, a key element of the 2025 Common Agricultural Policy package. The payments, expected to total about €600 million, include adjustments for connected regimes, ecological schemes and special support for the Aegean islands.

Decisions for four ecological schemes amounting to €147 million were published in the Official Gazette, while pending ministerial approvals concern additional ecological programmes, the organic farming conversion scheme and the Confucius programme. A separate decision released on 24 June allocates €40 million in credits for actions on nitrification, rare breeds, animal welfare and reforestation, slated for imminent payment.

Schoinas, speaking at the EU Council of Agriculture Ministers in Luxembourg, emphasised the importance of securing the overall support level for Greek farmers over the next five years and called for simple, flexible rules in the forthcoming CAP reforms.
