Greece records 15 traffic fatalities and nearly 600 injuries in July 2026

In July 2026 the Greek Police reported a sharp rise in road accidents. In the Attica region 462 traffic collisions resulted in six deaths and 542 injuries, with more than 1,100 violations recorded each day. The most common offences were failure to wear helmets (3,755 cases), non‑use of seat‑belts (1,774), speeding (962), drunk driving (912) and mobile‑phone use while driving (607).

In Central Macedonia 45 accidents were logged, causing nine deaths and 54 injuries. Authorities documented 4,303 traffic violations, of which 2,183 involved speeding. Additional breaches included 517 for not using seat‑belts, 301 for not wearing helmets, 202 for drunk driving and 190 for phone use. Overall, Greece recorded 15 traffic deaths and nearly 600 injuries in July, highlighting serious road‑safety challenges across the country.
