Greece records record luxury property sales and bank deposits in first half of 2026

Data from Greece Sotheby’s International Realty show that purchases of high‑end homes by non‑dom investors reached €58.2 billion between 2024 and the first half of 2026, far exceeding the €18.9 billion generated through the Golden Visa scheme. Non‑dom buyers accounted for 29 % of the company’s transaction volume in 2025 and their average purchase price was €2.95 million, compared with €1.50 million for Golden Visa buyers. British purchasers dominated the non‑dom segment, holding a 53 % share, a trend the firm links to the United Kingdom’s abolition of its own tax‑benefit framework in April 2025.

Meanwhile, the Bank of Greece reported that household deposits hit a three‑year record of €153 billion in the first half of 2026, the highest level since August 2011. The rise was driven by increased savings in demand accounts (+€2.43 billion) and higher wages and tourism‑related income, offset by a drop in term‑deposit placements. Analysts attribute the deposit surge to stronger employment, a rising minimum wage and the seasonal inflow of tourism revenue.
