Greece reopens student housing allowance applications until September 22

The Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports has reopened the application platform for the student housing allowance for the 2025-2026 academic year. This second application period is available from September 17 until Tuesday, September 22, 2026, specifically for eligible students and families who missed the initial submission window held between June 30 and July 31.

The allowance amounts vary based on location and living conditions. The base annual amount is €1,500, which can increase to €2,000 for students studying outside the Attica and Thessaloniki regions or those sharing a rented residence with another student. In certain cases, the amount may reach up to €2,500.

Applications must be submitted electronically via the Ministry's dedicated portal using TAXISnet credentials. Generally, the person declaring the student as a dependent on their tax return submits the application, though students over 25, orphans, or those with parents living abroad may apply themselves. This deadline does not apply to first-year students entering in 2026, who will apply in 2027.

Separately, OPEKA has opened its electronic platform for the 2026 scholarship and financial award program (LAE) for students who secured university placement through the 2026 Panhellenic Examinations.
