Deputy Transport Minister Georgios Kotsiaras announced that a draft law under public consultation will ban the sale, rental and use of electric scooters by anyone under 17 years of age. The proposal also sets a €1,000 fine for providers who rent or sell scooters to minors and for users who are caught riding them.

The draft requires riders to wear helmets, forbids the use of mobile phones or headphones while riding, mandates a reflective safety vest at night and makes insurance compulsory. It also would prohibit electric scooters on any road where the speed limit exceeds 50 km/h. Kotsiaras said the measures aim to curb the rising number of accidents involving scooters, especially among young people, and to build on recent reductions in fatal road crashes observed after stricter traffic enforcement.
