Greece rolls out €150 emergency child allowance for millions of families

The Greek Ministry of Finance and the Independent Authority of Public Revenue (AADE) completed the first and largest payment of an emergency child allowance of €150 per dependent child. The main disbursement, finished on 30 June 2026, covered 947,609 eligible families and 1,525,188 children, amounting to €219,737,550.

Eligibility requires tax residency in Greece, children declared on the 2024 income tax return, and income below set thresholds – €40,000 for the first child of married or cohabiting parents (increasing by €5,000 for each additional child) and €39,000 for single‑parent families. Payments are automatic; no application is needed. The amount may be credited in full to one parent or split 50‑50 when parents file separate returns.

Some families did not receive the payment because they fell outside the income limits, failed to declare a child, or had missing or incorrect IBAN details. Children born in 2025 or 2026 are excluded from the main round and will be considered for a supplementary payment up to 31 August 2026, provided the necessary tax identification is submitted.
