Greece rolls out OPEKA child benefit of up to €1,000 for large families
The Greek Welfare Organization (OPEKA) has introduced a new child‑benefit scheme under the Agricultural Household Account program. Eligible third‑child parents will receive €700, while parents with four or more children will receive €1,000. The government plans to allocate the funds to 2,300 third‑child mothers or single fathers and 600 multiple‑child mothers or single fathers.
Applicants must be directly insured under the LAE/OPEKA system, have three or more children with active insurance status, and meet additional criteria such as age, schooling or disability of the children. Applications are submitted through a dedicated OPEKA mobile app, with the filing window opening on 15 June and closing on 15 July 2026.
The measure is part of broader reforms aimed at ending annual recalculations of OPEKA benefits that cost over €3.2 trillion. The Ministry of Social Cohesion and the Ministry of Finance are discussing permanent use of prior‑year income for the first installment and a shortened tax‑filing period to streamline payments.
