Greek schools to reopen September 11 for the 2026-2027 year

The 2026-2027 school year in Greece is scheduled to begin on Friday, September 11. The first day will focus on religious blessings (agiasmos), receiving instructions, and the distribution of textbooks rather than formal lessons. Teachers are expected to return to schools on September 1 to begin organizational preparations.

While most students will resume classes on Monday, September 14, those in the Municipality of Aigaleo will benefit from a three-day weekend due to a local holiday celebrating the Elevation of the Holy Cross. This holiday also affects municipal services and the University of West Attica.

Regarding school supplies, the Consumer Protection Union of Crete reports that prices remain largely consistent with 2025 levels, though significant price variations exist between different types of retailers, such as bookstores and supermarkets.

In terms of safety, ROADPOL has announced its Safety Days from September 16 to 22, focusing on pedestrian safety to coincide with the increased traffic around schools. This initiative aligns with the Vision Zero goal of reducing fatal road accidents.
