Greece school supply costs increase for families

Greek families are facing significant financial pressure due to the rising costs of essential school supplies for the upcoming academic year. Research indicates that while a range of prices exists, the majority of basic items are priced at levels that heavily impact household budgets.

For primary school students, school bags typically cost at least 30 euros, with prices ranging from 15 to 100 euros. Other essential items include lunch boxes, which generally cost at least 14 euros (ranging from 7 to 50 euros), and water bottles, which most commonly cost at least 10 euros (ranging from 2 to 25 euros).

Stationery costs also contribute to the total expense. Rectangular pencil cases generally cost at least 10 euros, with prices spanning from 8 to 40 euros. Notebook prices vary by type: softcover notebooks typically cost at least 1.30 euros, hardcover notebooks at least 3 euros, and spiral notebooks at least 3 euros. Specialized notebooks, such as those for mathematics or spelling, also add to the cumulative cost of preparing for the school year.
