Greece school supply costs remain stable for new academic year
As the new school year approaches in Greece, market research indicates that the cost for basic school supplies is remaining relatively stable compared to last year. On average, parents can expect to spend between 100 and 120 euros per child for essential stationery and supplies. This estimate specifically excludes larger items such as school bags, lunch boxes, and water bottles.
Individual product prices vary significantly based on quality and brand. School bags range from 15 to 100 euros, while basic 50-sheet notebooks start at approximately 0.49 euros. Mathematics notebooks cost between 1.59 and 2.50 euros, and spiral notebooks can reach up to 8 euros. Art supplies, such as watercolor sets, range from 2.25 to 15 euros, with an average price of 3.50 euros.
Industry representatives, including Giannis Tsioumpri of the Association of Booksellers and Publishers of Athens and Suburbs, noted that while prices have not seen major increases in the last two years, the costs remain a burden for many households. Additionally, some supermarkets have planned initiatives to reduce prices on approximately 300 school-related items starting September 1st.
